Research Plots for Germination Analysis and Ipil + Mangkono development process

The first research has started and we are recording the development states

of the species available:

Mangkono, Ipil, Mountain Agoho, Narra (these 4 species were studied in the research plots, selected due to enough seasonal seed availability)

+ White Nato, Malabayabas, Bogo and Amugis are being observed closely in the development process while growing up

Many more species will be added later this year!

SAWE Donated first seedlings to local schools to start our education campaign:

Mangkono,

Malabayabas,

White Nato,

Ipil

and few Amugis seedlings

were planted

These seedlings were planted in late January- early February 2018.

Our target is to educate the local communities

about the most valuable and endangered

Palawan endemic hardwood species.

There is no better way to teach most of the locals to recognize and identify these species from tiny small seedling to a big tree than to plant them in the schools!

We will plant at least 1 seedling of all of the local hardwood species to every school in our partner barangays. Later other areas as well.

Students can follow the growth of the seedlings and return back to memorize that they participated in the planting - and now the tree is big.

After several years, we will plant more tiny seedlings to refresh the education and have always small seedlings growing among the bigger ones.

We will also plant seedlings in other public areas in the next round.

The main reason why people cut small hardwood wildlings, that are growing in their way while walking in the forest, is that they simply do not know which species they are.

Soon everybody will know "DO NOT CUT THIS ONE!"

SAWE will also arrange lectures to students in these schools from time to time to educate about the biology and ecology of the species.

The findings from our research will be presented in the Western Philippines University Aborlan Campus and a shorter, more easy to understand, version will be presented in these schools.

We will strongly encourage students to choose forestry studies and help us research more about these wonderful species.

Currently available research is NON-EXISTENT! We need more researchers!

You can help us to expand our activities to more areas and schools. We wish to propagate these species back to all around Palawan and make them well known by all people. This is just the beginning.
